Frequently asked questions

Is it really free? Do I have to sign up?

It's free and there's no sign-up. You type in the website address, wait for the test to run and see the result right away. We don't store the address you tested and we don't ask for your email to show you the report.

Where do these scores come from?

From PageSpeed Insights, Google's own tool — the same one we use on our own projects. We're not the ones giving the score: we just translate Google's result into language you can understand without being in the field.

Why is the test on a phone and not a computer?

Because phones are where most visits come from today, and phones are where a site suffers: slower network and weaker hardware. A site that does well on a phone does well anywhere — the opposite isn't true.

My score came out low. Is that serious?

It depends how much your business depends on the site. A low score means a share of people give up before the page opens, and you never find out they were there. The good news is that it's usually among the cheapest problems to fix.

I ran it twice and got different numbers. Why?

That's normal. The test measures a single moment: network, server and ads vary from one run to the next. What matters is the range, not the exact number — going from 30 to 35 changes nothing, going from 30 to 90 changes everything.
